Public Speaking

I began speaking on the topic of getting started in web design back in 1995. Most often, I speak to designers who are interested in making the transition from print to the web. I've had the opportunity to speak to audiences across the US and internationally, including:

SXSW Interactive, Austin, TX (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003)

AIGA, Washington D.C. Chapter (2000)

AIGA, Houston, TX Chapter (2000)

ESNE (now nSight), Boston, MA (1998)

GRAFILL Conference, Geilo, Norway (1997)

Seybold, San Francisco, CA (1995)

World Wide Web Consortium International Expo, Boston, MA (1995)

Courses and Workshops

I enjoy teaching beginner web design courses and workshops. Classes range from one-day intensive overviews to hands-on training spanning over several weeks. Workshops generally include the following topics:

  • Introduction to how the Web works
  • Learning HTML
  • Creating Web Graphics
  • Using Web Authoring Tools
  • Introduction to Advanced Techniques

I've taught classes for these fine institutions:

Johnson & Wales University, School of Technology, Providence

Massachusetts College of Art, Boston

Interactive Factory, Workshops Program, Boston

Corporate Training

I am also available for on-site training, whether for a one-day presentation to a group or one-on-one training. I'd be happy to customize materials to meet your needs.
